Reaching my sky..!

Am I the one that I want to be?

Well, I was searching some pieces of art over the net but I didn’t find anything special, that make me feel a strange sense in my extremely art criticism. I looked for exactly an hour some pictures or real works of art made in the Renaissance but they didn’t filled my classification target (just kidding), but then I remember a painting that I saw in some place, the problem was that I couldn’t remember the name of the piece of art. The painting was about two human maybe one good and one was a single mortal, they were stretching like trying to touch each other with their index finger. So firstly, like an brainless I began to search my famous painting with some weird names like “The painting of the fingers” or “God’s finger”, then I saw something related to Michelangelo and I click it, then my eyes couldn’t see because that painting was made by Michelangelo and I didn’t knew it, and if this is extreme the painting is in the vault of the Sistine Chapel, one of the most art decored.
Let’s stop telling my story, because if I continue I will never end.
Then when I chose the painting, I began to think what did I feel when I saw it and I began to plan my perfect representation.
The first thing that I did was that I took my some important things that I have in my bedroom, and I let them in one of my favorites box, which is decorated with guess what? ¡comics! , then I went up to the roof of my house and watched for a while the beautiful scene that my representation will project it, I got inspired thinking in te people who has help me all the time , so then I began my photo shop with the help of my brother Juan Pablo and this is the thing that it means for me this painting.
The real meaning
"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living soul."(Gn.1.27)
To me it represents a weak soul that needs the help of God, he the powerful creature of the entire universe, who can destroy and create at the same time, who cans love and maybe hate, but he is the one that has clemency and loves us like nobody.
And now I disagree with the concept of Michelangelo who tells that the man is now similar to god, that the human can touch him. But thinking inside my mind I reach the idea that all the humans can touch God, but only in their own hearts. They can touch him but only by a spiritual form because god is a soul and we are such a soul to but we are weak soul that can’t touch the most powerful one.
In this moment I’m very inspired so maybe I could like embarrass you but it doesn’t matter because I want to express myself, maybe you will say that im a crazy catholic but you are wrong I am just expressing what I feel using my experiences of my life that helped me to think about many things in my life.
If we really want to talk with God or even touch him like in the painting we need to be in silence and reflexing about the things that we have, we shouldn’t be shy everything that we want to ask to God we should ask him, because he is helping us in every moment and he will find the way to help us, we only need to be humble like in the painting and he will give us strength.
“Who humbles himself will be praised; who praises himself will be humbled”

SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORK

What is so special and unique about this work of art?
Searching on the web I couldn’t find the answer for this question, so then I began to think a little bit and I discover that the special and unique value that has the work art, is the one that you only you give it. In my opinion this painting is very important because it describes our life our human life since the creation and it was created in the most important period on art history, the Renaissance. Also it is unique to me because it is only one in the world and only one like this in the Sistine Chapel and it was only painted by Michelangelo.

RELEVANT EVENTS OF THE CONTEXT
What was the prevailing atmosphere of the period? What was the cause of it?
This painting took place in the Renaissance period that began in the Italian countries, in this time of the humanity the church was the one that controlled all the things that the people could join into, such as politics, ideologies, religion, dances and art. The only reason was that the church didn’t want that the people disturb the whole city with intellectual arguments.
What were the predominant political, religious or artistic ideologies?
The only strong and unifying force in Europe was the Roman Catholic Church, this controlled all the aspects in Europe. The pope, as head of the Catholic Church, wielded spiritual authority over all of Europe. The church and the state were viewed as two different aspects of one Christian society, sometimes referred to as Christendom.
As towns grew in Italy, they demanded self-rule and often developed into strong, independent city-states.
In the artistic ideologies all was related to God and biblical information but then all began to be about the human being in the world with some biblical and religious aspects.

(Encyclopedia Británica, Renaissance)

What scientific and technological advances made and impact in the period? In which way?

  • New conceptions of the universe.

  • Spirit of curiosity and experimentation.

  • Human anatomy.

  • Structures and processes of nature.

  • Discoveries in navigation.

  • Laws of motion.

This advances impact the period because it was a whole process named the Renaissance, which goal was to improve the human lives with the self expression, although this theories and discoveries were important because the artists had an idea of how to do their work. Can we imagine a painting without the anatomy discovered by Vesalius or the spirit of curiosity proposed by many philosophers of the age, if they wouldn’t be able to discover those things, we couldn’t thing that a period named Renaissance existed.
("Renaissance," Microsoft® Encarta® Online Encyclopedia 2009)
(Dowling, Mime “The Renaissance”

Is this work of art reflecting the atmosphere of the period? In which way?
Yes, it is. The way that this work of art reflects the atmosphere of this period is that Michelangelo wanted to express on his chronological paints around the Sistine Chapel and this is not the exception. The paint is related to God that means that it is a religious type, then we can see that the model look like a real human with the anatomic characteristics and the divine proportion. And in general it is like reflecting that the man wants to be more near to god and maybe be like him a single human in the earth.

REFLECTION: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE CONTEXT AND THE WORK

Is this work of art reflecting the predominant ideologies of the period? In which way?
Yes, it expresses the humanism view of the Renaissance period.
We can see God and a human in this case Adam, they have near their index finger like sowing us power and a distance but what Michelangelo really wanted to express is that the human is like God and it is the most beautiful thing here in the world. This is a characteristic of the humanism lived in the Renaissance.
It look like they want to change all the standards that were in that period according to the church.

Is the impact of the scientific and technological advances reflected in this work of art? In which way?
We can not see it in all the painting but I think that the anatomic cuts on the human are well done by the author and maybe math operations. But in general I don’t think that this paintings show us scientific advances, because it is more ideological sense.

Emil Kren and Daniel Marx , Web Gallery of Art)

What are the aspects of the period that you identify yourself with? Why
The thing which I completely identify myself, is with the spirit of curiosity and experimentation, because I really like to discover new things and searching for new things I get sometimes big problems, cause I confuse myself.
I actually admire the human but not in the way of beauty like in the Renaissance, I admire his complex and structure and the way it realizes all the process that a human need to do for live in this world.

"Boots of Life"

Well, I dont have anything important to tell about my feelings, because I think that if you see my photo you will know of what I am talking about.

I was just kidding, and know I am going to tell you a little about how did I picked this picture and what did I feel when I saw it the first time. It was one day afternoon when I decided to begin my BLOG, so I started searching on "google" important paintings and sculptures all over the world, but the few things that I found didn´t make me feel something and if I chose them I was going to do the BLOG only as a homework, but i didn´t want to do it like that, I just wanted my blog be the best part of my art criticism and values that i put to artistic works.

I continue searching on paintings of Michelangelo, Dali, Rafael, Rivera, Rebrandt, etc. Then I saw a image and I stopped, I looked it carefully and I discovered which was the protagonist in my BLOG, a painting named "The Boots" by Vincent Van Gogh. This picture attract all my atention because it was a simple painting of a boots in a yellow background, and I know it´s kind of weird that a simple pair of rag boots catched my eyes. (:D)

Since that moment, I knew that it was time to begin all my representatio work and this is what i made:

Firstly, I thought kind of phylosphical stuffs in my mind, trying to blow up my five senses and star working. Befor knowing the real story about the boots of Van Gogh I selected two wordsewas HARDWORK and SACRIFICE.

The first idea that I had was to cover my arms and hands with mud, like making a relation with the hardwork of the people and the slaughter suffering , but suddenly I thought that if i only put the gray picture, it was going to be kind of boring and without feelings so i put a green leave between my hands , becuase I dont like the sad moments, but i hope that always that you are suffering, there is a little light between and if we used we can resolver our problems only if we trust in ourselves.

Then I kept thinking on hardwork, and in my house I began to have a photographic session in which I was the model, as the same as the first picture i covered myself of mud and I tryed to work out some ideas for my next photo, and i decided to take a photo in wich i was without t-shirt and covered with mud my back and arms, then i took a scoop with my two hands and took the photo, in that photo i tryed to made important the work and the slaughter that i think that Van Gogh wanted to transmit to us, in that same picture i am alone and i only have my scoop and the mud as partners, anybody is beside me hoping i will be fine.

In the last picture, there are my soccer boots, a scoop and my dirty hand over the shoes. This picture was supposed to be like the one of Vincent Van Gogh, the only difference is the contrast that i wanted to be seen in my photo, if we can see the boots are white and over the white there is a dirty hand maybe of a worker.

The sense of this picture is that a worker can´t buy a pair of white shoes, they could only be avaiable to have boots (work boots), but i think that supporting slaughter we can grew up as persons, brother, sister, father, mother, friend, etc. and we can also have big goals in our lives.

Finally, in my opinion about all i had said about the picture and the author, I think that nowdays people dont want to suffer and being humble (values don´t poor) they want to be superb and that is not good, because there is an example our fathers maybe support us with sacrifice, but we were their children the couldn´t let us down, and know they can look to us and say " Im the luckiest father of the world" (includes mother too).

Analyzing "Van Gogh Boots"

Now, I am going to analyze the picture of Vincent Van Gogh with Ingardens Theory, which is about the self feelings and the visible and invisible objects on the painting.

Concretation:
In the image, if i fill in the blanks I can see a pair of alone boots, that are sad because their owner isnt there, then I can see a piece of floor of the room of Vincent. I think that the paintings are only about the boots, because they really were one of the most valious things that owned to Van Gogh. But if I continue filling in the blanks I wont be able to describe perfectly what is in my mind, because I begin to think over and I thought that sometimes we are such alone like te painting of the boots, that no one else is awaiting for us, so we are suffering, and without suffer we can´t think about our lives and how we are doing in here. Especially in my opinion i think that people dont like to suffer, but we need to have this pain, because this time of pain is the time when we can be in the deepest part of our soul and our hearts.

Physical Object:
This painting was made in 1888 by the famous paintor Vincent Van Gogh, this paintings is made on a surface of white canvas, the painting was painted with oil and a differente brushes. Anyway we can include the wooden desk and the boots as physical objects.

Aesthetic Object:
The aesthetic object of this painting for me, is that with the boots Van Gogh wants to represent us the hard work that we need to pay for an instance in our life. I think that Vincent wanted to transmit to us the value of the slaughter, because if we watch the boots, we can see an old boots, smelly boots, hardwork boots, but if we se through them we can see the most important things wich is they are still boots and they still work, so it doesnt matter if they are a bunch of rag, they work and that is the best.

Aesthetic Values:
The aesthetic values following Ingardens Theory, are the ones that you feel in an artistic work as beauty, impact, amazment, etc.
With this picture I felt some aesthetic values like, profundity; the boots are in the center and they introduced myself inside of the picture, deepnes; the picture is deep and all the complement colors make the boots a beautiful contrast which made me feel exactly what Vincent felt when he paint the boots. And finally i felt like a strange serenity because when you see it you are like if you were breathing lots of peace, but then you say what? the boots are a little rude.

Artistic Values:
The artistic values are the ones that make the art work, be really an artistic feel.
The painting hasn´t a frame, it is signed by the author, the light is coming from the top right corner, it has cold and hot colors. (black and yellow/ mostly).

" Van Gogh Boots"

¿Why the boots?

This story we owe it to Paul Gauguin who shared a room with Vincent in Arles , France in 1888. He tells that in the study Vincent had a pair of hobnail boots full of mud, which made a remarkable painting, intrigued by the reason for keeping such a rag he asked him one day. Vincent then told the story of that pair of shoes.

"My father was a pastor and with him I studied theology. One morning, without telling anyone, I went to Belgium, I was very young, ready to preach the gospel in the factories, but I taugh it jus like as I understand it and I believed that Jesus loved the poor. These boots join me in all my trip".

But there is more, Gaugin tell that Vincent told him a story wich one day in one of the factories where he was preaching, there was an grisu explosion and a man was burnt and maimed. The doctor said that only a miracle could save the life of this gentleman, so Vincent worried about him decided to stay fourty days with the man. Finally the man was safe and Vincent kept the boots, because he thought that Jesus resurrected this man and that was like a relic of a miracle of Jesus, the Jesus who lives in the dephts of each one.

Gaugin concludes: "And Vincent took his brush again, and quietly went to work"
